This
cozy cabin with three decks (one a large wrap-around) is on a foothill
of Massanutten Mountain, joining the George Washington National Forest
that borders the south fork of the Shenandoah River, with beautiful
views - perhaps 20 miles - of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the River.
Your oak deck porch spans the entire front of the cabin and then some.
The hand-built porch swing can be your lazy day perch above your front
grass lawn (and child play area if wanted) watching the sun rise directly
before you and travel across the Shenandoah Valley.
Imagine
this is your view, your country place anytime you want. Make this custom-built
unique artist’s cabin overlooking miles of the Shenandoah Valley
and River YOURS. Enjoy a quick hike through the adjacent George Washington
National Forest to the South Fork of the Shenandoah River.
Built in 1994 and completely renovated this past year, this glass-fronted
cabin with private decks overlooking the forest and stream, faces the
Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah River and is at the base of the
Massanutten Mountain, within a quarter of a mile to public access for
the Shenandoah River. Another short hike takes you through the George
Washington National Forest to the seven-acre bass lower lake, a bass,
blue gill and catfish stocked fishing pond / bird sanctuary. Imagine
floating in the silence watching the sunrise or set in your canoe or
kayak.
The
cabin? Prepare to fall in love if you like rustic, unique, and hand-built.
The two-storied living room has 18-foot high ceilings. It measures approximately
18’ by 24’ with the wood-burning brick chimney fireplace
rising amidst sets of windows facing southwest on either side. Opposite
rises the staircase to the overlooking balcony. A gas flame fireplace
/ heater comes with the cabin.

Both
bedrooms have private decks. The bedroom adjacent to the downstairs
bath with shower and laundry access is approximately 14’ by 12’,
the upstairs loft bedroom 14’ by 16’.
The downstairs living room, dining area, bathroom and kitchen have ceramic-tiled
floors. The stairs, bedrooms, hall have hand-finished wood flooring.
The downstairs and loft cedar walls and pine ceilings are all finished
with hand-milled wood from within a mile of the cabin. The 3 foot very
thick stair risers to the loft and banister above have driftwood pickets
. Imagine a child there peaking at the Christmas tree, wondering how
Santa will come with the fireplace ablaze!

The kitchen has a built-in dishwasher, new refrigerator, electric range
and oven, and hand-built cabinets. The cabin is heated by electric and
propane. The cabin is on its own septic system (built in 1994) and water
is provided through Aquarius Water Systems, Inc., the local state-regulated
water system supplying almost 100 homes in the area. Water bill is less
than $400 annually. Page County Real Estate taxes are modest and were
just reappraised and raised this year, so it is unlikely to see raises
in the near future. Insurance rates are low in this area. The nearest
Fire Department is in town and excellent.
The bedroom decks and screened-in porch off the kitchen hangs over the
stream to the lower lake and its bamboo thicket 50 feet below. The screened
porch has a hand-cut bamboo floor, hand-laid and stained. Yes, we raised
and harvested the bamboo. Donald is the original mountain man and environmentalist
in building.
